Who we are
Alistair Turvill is a Chartered Psychologist and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Following 13 years working as a senior academic in UK higher education, his work now focuses on reseach, conulstancy and trainnig. Areas of specialism include pain and musculoskeletal health, health promotion, quality of life, early years, health and wellbeing, research methods and evaluation, and workplace wellbeing.
Kay Owen is a Chartered Psychologist, a member of the Higher Education Academy, and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. She has taught at every stage of education from pre-school through to doctoral level and is an acclaimed speaker and trainer.
Her research focuses on both the cognitive and socioemotional aspects of learning, with published works including studies of adult learners, the development of memory structures and the importance of physical and social environments.
Dr Owen also works at the intersection of arts, nature, and education, focusing on interventions that support children’s connection to nature and creativity. Her work bridges research and practice across academic and educational settings.
Professor David Sheffield brings decades of international experience in health psychology to Research Well and is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society
David is currently Professor of Psychology at the University of Derby, where his work focuses on human behaviour, health, and wellbeing across everyday and high-pressure settings. His research spans stress and coping, cardiovascular health, and the links between nature exposure and psychological wellbeing. He also has strong expertise in anxiety and performance (including mathematical anxiety), alongside pain management and related behavioural approaches.
